I'd like to know where you've gotten all those stats you're throwing around, but whatever. I don't participate in the rage, either, but I won't be buying the game. I prefer to spend my time and money on games that let me play as a woman.

I've been a dedicated fan for years and was pretty upset by it (mostly because AC has a good history of kickass women npcs, and lots of female multiplayer characters). I don't plan on continuing with the series now, mostly because I've lost interest as of Black Flag, but this kerfuffle just cemented my decision.

Anyways, I don't think you should write off complaints just because someone isn't "fan" enough by your definition. This argument doesn't really hold water because the deciding factors in it are so arbitrary.

I don't really care about it because I wouldn't play as a female character anyway. But I still think that they were stupid to make bullshitty excuses. Guys, you were lazy and didn't care - own it, stop dressing it up as "too difficult/too much work" and deal with the consequences like big boys.

I get the feeling that a significant portion of the people complaining about Assassin's Creed would not have bought it anyway (i.e. they haven't bought Assassin's Creed games in the past or were already turned off the franchise). So yeah, I get your frustration, since it's righteous anger about a game that they wouldn't have supported anyway, and since they see other people complaining, they're basically jumping on the bandwagon / getting swept up in the fun complaining/mockery. That said, I also think there were definitely fans of the series that were disappointed by the announcement. It's just that at this point, mocking the series has become trendy among people who haven't played a game in the series and that's just a little annoying.

This happens with other game series and media other than games too. Once it becomes fun to mock something, people who have zero experience with said thing love to jump in with their witty put-downs.

Dude, I have friends who aren't pretending to be fans of the games -- some of them aren't even "gamers"! -- but that doesn't stop them from seeing what's wrong with the picture. They have female friends who play the games, they're female themselves, of course they care about it because of the social justice aspect (and in one's case, the French Revolution aspect as well) and why shouldn't they?

As someone who *does* buy the games, their excuse was unbelievably stupid. They should have either 1) not opened their mouths to begin with or 2) explain beforehand that all four of the men are apparently all Arnaud.

I'm not angry because we didn't get a woman, I'm "angry" because the excuse that was given was a total cop-out.

I think most people are mad because it's a lazy cop-out excuse, not just because it's sexist.

There are a TON of games that have somehow managed to put in the time and efffort to animate female characters. But apparently for them it's too hard?

If you're an animator and you can't be bothered animating something because it's too difficult (especially something like half the world's population for which you have billions of reference models, and which countless games before you have managed to do), then you should just quit. Just fucking quit and throw in the towel because you're embarassing everyone around you.

I honestly (as a female) don't give a shit there's no female PC. I have dropped this series long ago. Not because of lack of female characters or some SJW shit but because of general repetition, casualization and money-grabbing tactics. Lack of a playable female character is not that big of a deal to me since I can very well relate with male characters. However, what's pretty embarrassing is the way the creators deal with the critique. Stop making stupid excuses. There can actually be valid reason for not including certain gender (like the narrative, etc) but this just makes you look like jackasses.
