On the other hand, can you really say that reading is one of your hobbies when you read one book a year? That's like saying gardening is one of your hobbies because you planted a tulip bulb or that aquaculture is one of your hobbies because you have a goldfish. You like reading, but you don't necessarily want to spend that much time on it. There's nothing wrong with that. I like horses, but I don't actually want one and horses aren't a hobby of mine.

I didn't know there were hobby police. If they consider it a hobby, then it's their hobby. How many tulips does one have to plant to consider themselves a gardner? How many books does one have to read to consider reading a hobby? Is there a website with guidelines?

That went south quickly.

That you even have to ask shows that you're not a gardener! Tulips are for amateurs!

A hobby is an activity that one regularly engages in for enjoyment. A garden is a small plot of land that is planted with a variety of plants.

I'd suggest that reading the dictionary should be your new hobby, but you probably looked up a word once and think that it already is.

You can read a page of a book literally every single day and not finish one in a year. Does that fit your deifnition of "an activity that one regularly engages in for enjoyment"?

I don't even agree with you but lmaooooo fucking SNAP

Just one tulip, but you have to do more than just plant it. You gotta appreciate it and worry over it too.

I was interpreting OP's secret as saying they have read one book so far this year, plus one book they still have on the go from last year. Which doesn't make them a heavy reader, but still makes a lot more sense to me than if they only read one book per year.

I love reading, but I haven't yet found time to finish a book this year. Doesn't mean I won't finish several before december. One motnh I finish three, another month I don't finish even one. I still consider reading my hobby, it's simpyl not the only hobby I have and spreading my precious little free time between them all can be hard.
