Words don't mean what we want them to mean unless we're Humpty Dumpty. So if you read regularly then one of your hobbies is reading. If you do not read regularly then one of your hobbies is not reading.

they're referencing Through The Looking Glass where HD tells Alice that when he says a word, it means exactly what he intends it to mean (implied that this is regardless of what everyone else understands it to mean)

it's a reference to one particular version of the character which so far everyone who has seen it has understood, so I really don't see why this is an issue
