yeah, that was kind of my point. you can argue the hows and whats and whys of reading for days and days, you're guaranteed to come up with a bottomless pit of (un)necessary credentials and hard-to-gauge criteria, and at the end of the day (and after an eternity of arguing), the only thing that really matters is whether or not you're reading.

i guess one thing you could make a solid case for is reading comprehension.
