Wake up call for what? Lots of people have financial issues and are struggling. You act like all those people have money to spare or that they are somehow obligated to. That's not even counting the kids who don't even have an income, but even if they did nobody has to give there money to everyone asking for it.

For fucks sake I hate that fandom has become like this. It's supposed to be a place where fans go to enjoy stuff with others who have similar interests. They don't go to give hand outs to everyone that's begging for it. In my experience there are a lot of 20-something college age students in fandom who could ALL use some cash, but that doesn't mean anyone has to give it to them. That's what jobs are for. And patreon is only meant to give perks to people in exchange for cash, not a GIMME FREE MONEY PLS.

This reminds me of all those kickstarters: GIVE ME MONEY TO PAY FOR MY FOOD AND BILLS SO I CAN STREAM VIDEOGAMES ON TWITCH ALL DAY.

This seems really angry and defensive and not really warranted by the content of the secret. I think maybe you're bringing some extra baggage to this conversation.

DA

I don't blame them for this really, the vague way OP phrased it, it could be a wake up call to anything.

Free market sez fandom's easy money. Blame Ayn Rand.

Video recording all day means you act all day plus somehow bought equipment to do so, your light is stable, there is no noise and camera post-processing is not shitty.

Not long ago, we had game testing studios and magazines with snarky reviews, we had publishing houses giving you money advances, art patrons and smaller film studios being given budget to do indie projects but we killed the market.

Also - I never got a typical starter job as all were physical like waiting, cashiering, stocking and so on while office jobs were for interns and I had to work full time. Black market was happy with me for 10 years, I assume person on foodstamps would also be possibly disabled like me or in any other situation similar to mine.

Hobbies and how we go about them relate to how we live our lives - one fan is going to all gigs and the other is still recording music on tapes from radio.

Edit: Someone written below that person in secret might be employed as well and it's more plausible as secret OP might have mentioned other things before food stamps if not. Minimum wage jobs are a trap - if you are single and living alone in a one bedroom flat in Glasgow whilst working part time (20 hours) or full time (35 hours), you can get some assistance (usually tax credits for over 30 hours).

The trap is - it is not a job you would be promoted from and to apply for those above this level - you need qualifications which usually cost money. However, never do those qualifications BEFORE finding said job as then you usually are overqualified for those above (yeah, you can remove it from CV but depends on how a company treats that - my mum is working as a cleaner / kitchen attendant at hotels for 7 years now and they omitted her previous history in tax office with building economy engineer degree but she cannot advance because of it. For me - they told me I am overqualified for data input jobs with secondary school diploma).

I really have no tips here. If you make money of any website - good for you and good luck.
