Basically, unscrupulous people are constantly trying to use it to scam others out of money that they claim is for urgent help needed but is actually just because they want money in general, which makes those who actually DO need help look like just another lying beggar in the heap. Iirc you can't verify anything about someone's claims on there.

DA, Eh, I see that on things like gofundme and kickstarter, but patreon I haven't seen so much yet because it's more specifically about supporting the arts so I only see people with an actual product to sell (even if that product is digital art or writing.)

That's not really a scam as much as it's a business.
