Then make an effort to change that.

work on it, then. even my ancient flip phone had a calendar function that could notify me when it was someone's birthday. between computers, smartphones, hell, even some email programs, it takes about 10 seconds to type someone's birthday into your digital calendar of choice and get an annual reminder.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-15 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
OP. Yeah, I have that on Facebook. That Durant mean I know their birthday. It is low phone numbers. Just because it is in my phone, doesn't mean I know it.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-15 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but you can find out when it is and commit yourself to remembering it if it's that important to you, which clearly it isn't.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-15 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mean to be harsh, but... yeah. You might feel bad, but not that bad. There are plenty of ways to keep a record of birthdays and set up reminders for yourself if you truly wanted to remedy your problem.

Nah, blood is not thicker than water. Family is something you make for yourself.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Except when people say that, they usually don't mean that you should make a family out of fictional characters.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-16 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
In advance, I'm sorry for being a pedant.

The term is actually "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb", which essentially means exactly what you're saying: family is what you make, rather than are given.

I didn't say it but I'll admit I was thinking it.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-15 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrug* I know my brother's, my niece's, my parents', and my dead grandmother's. That's it. Not a big deal.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-16 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of the fictional characters I like don't even have a canon birthday so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It sounds like you don't really seem that sorry though.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-16 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, OP. I'm really bad at remembering dates, so I have everyone's birthday plugged into my phone and I get a little reminder a few days before so I can buy presents. I also make sure to note birthdays in my planner and on my calendar because I know I'll forget otherwise.

Well, that you can change.

If you want to. Write them down a few times, find mnemonic device, make an association (Is anyone's near a holiday? Do they share their birthday with someone famous or a fictional character you might remember? Did a historical event happen on that day?). Today, March 15, is the Ides of March - the day Julius Caesar was killed, it is also the day Maine became the 23rd state, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia abdicated the Russian throne, ending the 304-year Romanov dynasty, and the first Internet domain name was registered (symbolics.com). It is close to St. Patrick's day. It is also the birthday of will.i.am, Eva Longoria, Fabio, and a lot of other famous and semi-famous people. And Michael Scott (The Office) has a birthday today.

I know how you feel, OP...I made a secret a while back about how I only remembered my dad's bday because he shares it with my favorite singer. Who, to be fair, uses it in one of her stage names.
diabolicalfiend: CKR staring down looking slightly surprised (well that's a thing)

So long as you're coping (aka you're using alternate ways to 'remember' with people/technology reminding you), it doesn't really matter. Some numbers stick in your head, some don't.

I only remember the birthdays of my immediate family (though it's a bit tricky with my dad; his official birthday and his real birthday don't match); anyone else I rely on Facebook.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-16 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Your Dad has an official birthday?? I want to know more *g*
Given that he's not the Queen of England, what could it be?!

I never got the details, but apparently after my grandmother, my dad, and my aunts moved to Hong Kong, my grandma lied to the officials or something to get my dad into a lower year in elementary school. Or something. So my dad's birthdate on his ID card is three months off.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-16 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Very few people remember my birthday any longer.
