I don't see why this should get that response more than any of the other more wistful secrets around here. But I guess there's no reason it's less deserving of it either if that's your reaction.

Not OP, but why are you being OTT derisive about this? It's a perfectly reasonable unattainable thing to wish for.

Yeah, and I get that. But it was the "putting themselves unnecessarily at risk on purpose, which me going somewhere unplanned and unsafe would be" part that seemed to shove this into the black or white whinery.

I do get the general point. I've gone on several self planned adventures, and it's just not the same as the being whisked away into adventure fantasy. But it is better than nothing.

I don't know that it would be better than nothing but I'm a homebody who would be content to sit around reading for the rest of my life, so I can't say any of this makes much sense to me on a personal level.
