That's a shame. Several of my fandom friends (I have RL friends my own age but they are not in fandom) are young enough to be my kids (I'm in my 50s)

I think there's a kind of yoyo effect. When you're a teen talking to teens, that's considered ok, if you're in your mid twenties and talking to teenagers or something theres a chance people think you're romantic in a creepy 30 year old dating a high schooler way, if you're in your 50s and referring to them as young enough to be your kids the creepiness lessens as you move out of the "potentially dateable" and into "definitely twice their age" pool?

I remember being like 12 and 13 in Star Trek roleplays online with people probably old enough to be my parents. And one of them even made me an afghan when I went off to college. Fun times. I was on the other end of your scale, though I'm quickly approaching the older end.
