OP - what tropes do you dislike? Curious as while manga is less ridden with them, some are annoying me now as well. Was kidney stoned to death so read a lot and wanted to find nice psychological horrors or scifi. This is where I hit a brick wall - Asano Inio was the only one breaking out of conventions. Suspensful dystopian stuff usually gets mecha and this is one genre I hate. I also ran out of Junji Ito.

You mentioned fake gay stuff and that also drives me insane - would love a plotted horror or scifi with gay characters and found three - the one with cursed family where few can time travel in dreams, No. 6 manga adaptation and Killing Stalking. Would even love ordinary love stories that are realistic and without tropes. Once tried to find gay and disabled characters and failed.

Alas - I think you can fancy any medium or not and others mentioned various differences but I think that anime is more ... market mainstream so studios think of merch, profit and target audiences more. The only one I really hated anime version of was Death Note - the pacing was horrid.
