FYI: The AO3 thing is not something they decided to do--they've been trying to get in touch with the Wayback Machine/Internet Archive about it (since they found out about it) and have had no success. There's a post about it on their tumblr.

Thanks for the info! It seems like a really terrible decision for the people who run the website to have made, so I'm glad it had nothing to do with them. I thought maybe the AO3 mods were just catering to writers who felt personally victimized that people were waybacking their fics after they took them down, or something.

This explanation makes a lot more sense though.

Wowwww. Okay, yeah, that really sucks. Poor AO3 team, what a crappy situation to be in.

I feel like shooting angry side-eyes at the Internet Archive now. The least they could do is answer AO3's queries about why AO3 isn't being archived anymore.
