I had to stop watching it because I wasn't able to stand visual violence very well anymore, and it seemed to never let up on violence.

I still like the show because of some of the characters, though. But yeah, sometimes the writing isn't the best out there.

I think it's a familiar show that people can tune into and enjoy without having to follow a lot of complicated plot arcs. (I mean, yeah, there are plot arcs, but you could probably tune in any week and know what's happening, if you know what I mean.)

I think for many people it's a light and fun show, people who aren't bothered by the violence or aren't looking for superb writing all the time.

And you can't deny the power of characters to carry an audience when the show lacks in other ways.

Basically "hot cops in Hawaii, team stuff, characters you like, and flashy episodes" will cover for poor writing a lot of the time.

(I still love the McDanno dynamic though. I watch for gifs on my tumblr, etc.)
