Yeah, that's fandom for you

To be honest, I'm mostly just a little amused about you saying that it's "come to your attention". just a good phrase. good stuff.

I don't mind joke-y one shot comics about like Soldier 76 being a walking dad joke and such, but when people apply that to serious fanart and fanfiction, it gets distracting

And sometimes the fan interpretations do get old REALLY quick. 'Gremlin D.Va', anyone?

Oh god, the Gremlin D.Va stuff really pissed me off. I'm glad to see that's faded somewhat.

I'm really only familiar with fic involving S76, but I would not at all characterize it as only "Dad!76 fic". Hell, that is the minority of the fic I've seen. There is some a lot fun fanart of Dad!76 but even that isn't a majority.

Though, it makes sense people would fall into tropes. If a trope becomes popular, that means people like it. People liking it makes it MORE popular.

Bit of a tangent but...

As a long-ass-time TF2 fan, it's been so bizarre and delightful to watch every facet and phase of TF2 fandom happen AGAIN (IN FRONT OF MY EYES!!) with Overwatch. This secret in particular is hitting every single note.

What about it?

What about the secret is hitting "every single note"? I'm not familiar with TF2 so now I'm really curious. :P

Both games present interwoven teams of characters with strong personalities and voice lines that kinda sorta have backstories, and fans get to go nuts with their interpretations of the characters (sometimes to a fault in the secret-writer's opinion). Of course, OW is a direct successor to TF2 in terms of gameplay/niche so it's easy to draw biased comparisons! :B

Yepppppp. It's the same kind of stuff that pretty much happens in every big fandom. There's a lot more content, but you have to really wade through the shit to get to the good stuff.

Yeah, most people aren't particularly intelligent or creative or good at writing, but there they are, existing. Most of the people in one of my fandoms don't even know grade school level basic story formatting. what can ya do?
