Well, the reason why songs are in the Top 40 is because they're popular. "Eclectic" songs are probably going to have a slightly narrower appeal, especially if you choose more obscure tracks. You pride yourself on not being all mainstream (and if I'm honest, it's difficult not to roll my eyes at this part) but at the same time, you're unhappy that the majority of fandom doesn't share your taste in music and that you don't "fit in". Those are two conflicting issues, wanting to be popular yet eschewing popular tastes. I wish you luck in resolving them.
