Before Moff became a high flying tv writer he was once a lowly fan himself. Anyone that remembers him from those days, the days of zines and newsletters and when the cons were one step away from gay sex hookups in quite nasty hotel bars, knows that he has had a sex change fetish for the character. He was never exactly shy about it.

As to why I don't want it. It just has no interest for me, that is it. There is no big secret or conspiracy there. The idea of a female Doctor has no appeal, so why would I cheerlead it when I wouldn't watch the show if they did it? I'd rather cheerlead a choice that I will enjoy tuning in for. You can ask but-why all night and the answer won't shift from just-because.

I suspect that is probably true for a huge chunk of the notoriously conservative and old-fashioned British television watch public too. As a nation we're a lot more stuffy and stuck in the mud than anyone cares to admit, especially in the privacy of our own front rooms. There are less progressives than the change seeking progressives want, and even they don't want all that much half the time.

What I'm asking for here is any kind of documentation for this other than you saying it

You're asking if I have secret wiretaps of conversations that occurred in cons in the 1980s? Strangely enough, no. Doesn't stop it from being common knowledge from those which were there.

Are you aware of any places in which other people who were in Doctor Who fandom in the 1980s and 1990s have written about this apparently well-known fact?

I mean like for Pete's sake. Doctor Who fandom is extraordinarily well-documented and given to vociferous argument and people have genuinely been writing about this shit going back to the actual 80s. A lot of BNFs have been BNFs since the actual 80s. I would think if this was something that had happened, it would have gotten a ton of press, the same way that Moffat's 90s interview where he talked shit about classic Who has gotten a ton of press. But I've never seen any mention of it outside of people talking about the ending of Curse of Fatal Death.

I mean, just because you think the Doctor needs to remain a manly man with a penis who does manly things... Meh. Old people like you need to just let these things happen. Why can't the Doctor be a woman?

I'm young and female and I would absolutely hate it if they make the Doctor into a woman. If they want a good, kick-ass female character they ought to write a new one, not re-write an existing one. If the Doctor regenerate into a woman, that's gonna be the beginning of an end. BBC knows the franchise would go down the drain, so I highly doubt this will happen, regardless of rumors and wishful thinking of some.
