I agree, although I'm still amused at the handrails on the balconies in Rivendell. The elves who live there need to be careful not to stumble right over them. (Then again, at least there are handrails. You'd think architects in fantasy and Sci-fi movieverses have a severe allergic reaction to those things.)

This makes me sad because while they were pretty they were nothing like the book. Mirkwood in particular was a letdown.

True, but the movies generally changed so much that I prefer to regard them as a separate thing from the books altogether.

I have mixed feelings about those sets. They were very pretty, but they also looked very artificial to me. The Shire and Bag End in particular had a very authentic, lived-in look where I could almost forget it wasn't really someone's home. With Rivendell and Lothlorien, I never forgot I was looking at a movie set. A very pretty movie set! But a move set, nonetheless.

I think they were better than most of the other locations in the movies but

still not great tbh
