I don't understand why people put post data like entire sentences into their tags. :/

They only want their followers to see their comments. It also doesn't show up in the notes of the post.

NARYT but

You know, it's off topic but... I get this.

I just wish people wouldn't do it on their GODDAMN FICS.

I...don't understand. I guess I'm confused because what's in the tags could have been put into the field specifically for posting. Then just tag the post with specific tags that will show up in searches so people can find your reblog.

It could be simply that fandom and RPS is a lot bigger now. Which means all the basics have been covered and in order to write something original that isn't a rehash of the same old, people are forced to branch out to more and more specific things.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
People also didn't get metaphorically minute by minute updates of their favorite celebrities' lives, whether the celebrity likes it or not, and all the details to work with.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say it's gotten bigger now. I remember when fanfiction. net had a category for rps and it was FULL of bandom stuff. Angelfire and the like were over-flowing with Backstreet Boys, NSync, etc.

The Beatles had tons of fanzines with bandom stories about them.

And yes, in those fandoms I've read plenty of random and out there things.

Sorry, but it's not just a thing these young kids are doing now-a-days, with their MyFace and InstaBook.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This is basically the reason why I don't mind bandom (although I don't participate in it) - because so much of it is so totally divorced from anything to do with reality.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed, if I were a celebrity I'd much rather have totally out-there stories about random wine AUs written about me than things that sound creepily patched together from real life events, especially if they're traumatic ones, with some stalking on top.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, it's stuff like this that makes me want to be in bandom. It's just so flipping adorable and inventive and fun. I just want to cuddle fandom and sing its praises from the rooftop for being so zany and multifaceted and cool.

YMMV, obviously.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You sound like you already that annoying person in whatever fandom you are in.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's strange that people who enjoy harmless, creative endeavors produced for pleasure annoy you. I can't imagine feeling that way.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
lol this is the grumbliest grouchiest gatekeeperest thing I've seen in a while

Like, you're literally saying that someone is annoying for saying they have fun in fandom

Lmao that's a pretty specific niche for fic/rp

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like that this is all in the tags, but as a premise? I dunno, it's dorky but has the potential to be funny so long as the author doesn't take themselves too seriously. And clearly they don't, so...

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This kind of thing isn't exclusive to bandom. It could (and probably does) happen in any RPF/RPS fic.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in a bandom right now (not 1D, admittedly, although vaguely similar). It's the most fun I've ever had in a fandom. I've written a fuckton of fic, most of which is just for myself, and I've never enjoyed myself more. Some of the AUs I've written are a bit weird (not crazy), but no worse than I've seen in other, non-bandom fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
High five, anon! You sound like a fan after my own heart. I'm not in bandom, so I won't have read your fics, but I'm sure your fics have brought hours of enjoyment and entertainment to many a reader. :)

That stuff happens in every fandom at the moment though. Random AU scenarios are a big thing.

This happens in a lot of fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-17 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Not the winemaking AU necessarily, but the weird, specific AUs, that are sometimes cracktastic, sometimes not. I mean, there are a lot the standard high school/college AUs and coffee shop/bakery AUs that pop up, but yeah, then you find a beekeeping one or one where they're penguins or a falconry one or one where everyone is a Disney park character or one where they make unrelated people related and then there's surprise incest.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-17 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
today I learned people can refer to any music-adjacent RPF as "bandom" and had my first get off my lawn moment since some Star trek reboot fen started calling Kirk/Spock spork.

You know that thing I was talking about the other day about people not doing gay/bi men favors by shipping us. Larries are a prime example.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-17 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck off.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-17 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And when you see people claiming they're doing gay/bi men a favor by shipping them, you'll be well within your rights to tell them that. I, however, will be over here shipping what I want to, because I like it, and not giving a fuck.
