They only want their followers to see their comments. It also doesn't show up in the notes of the post.

You know, it's off topic but... I get this.

I just wish people wouldn't do it on their GODDAMN FICS.

Fics like on Ao3? If so, I agree 110%.

I...don't understand. I guess I'm confused because what's in the tags could have been put into the field specifically for posting. Then just tag the post with specific tags that will show up in searches so people can find your reblog.

I don't know how to better explain the first point...They don't want non-followers to see their comments in the notes list, so they don't put it in the text field.
And you can't search reblogs by tags unless you're searching a specific tumblr anyway.

Thanks for the explanation. I use Tumblr but I don't really pay attention to how it works, honestly. I guess people don't want non-followers seeing their comments because they don't want to cause discourse?

Sometimes you don't want to clutter up a post with commentary that will follow that post wherever it goes. If I want to make a comment intended only for my friends and followers to see but don't think it's important enough to stick it onto the end of that post for everyone thereafter to see, then I'll put it in the tags instead.
