[Black Panther movie]

Is reaching this hard part of your exercise regimen? Dunno much about BP but I bet she's invented some stuff that isn't cat spit gauntlets.

She looks part Voltron. How is she going to scratch her nose? Pick a wedgie? Feed/dress herself?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-04 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see her fingers so maybe they're retractable to some degree? Also she's presumably not going to stop in the middle of kicking ass to pick a wedgie.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-04 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, a really bad wedgie can be extremely distracting. Painful, even. And if superheroes have the time to drop clever quips during a fight scene, wedgie picking seems just as reasonable. :)

Yeah, they look really stupid. Maybe they will actually look practical in the movie?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-04 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I am excited about the movie in general, and I want to like her, but I love Tony Stark and his many issues to pieces and the protective fangirl in me reacts very butthurt to the idea that anyone on Marvel!Earth could possibly be more of an engineering genius than him.

I can't help it. The established fave whose insecurities I identify with > new and unknown (at least to me, who hasn't read any comics with her) quantity who could be everything I want in a female character. At least I am self-aware?

You're not alone in this, my feelings are exactly the same.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-04 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Is anyone else reminded of that one cringey Star Trek:TNG episode where Yar has to fight some lady with spiky poisoned gloves?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-04 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
okay but seriously, that cat finger from steven universe sincerely creeped me out.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-05 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
The thing about Steven's 'shapeshifting' that creeped me out was that he turned part of his body into a sentient creature that was not human or gem.... He didn't make his body change to look like something the way Amethyst does when she shapeshifts. I hate how it is not really brought up again.

any excuse to hate on a black girl right? LOLOLOLOL

(Anonymous) 2017-08-05 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
1/10 Rather poor effort,

(Anonymous) 2017-08-05 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I will admit, that was my first thought on seeing them too. Once they're on her hands are basically clubs that shoot and nothing else. I thought I saw a bit of footage that makes them look retractable, though? As in, she triggers them to come up when she needs to shoot and then retracts them again when she needs her hands back? That would add a lot of flexibility back in. Personally, though, I would prefer something more like the Iron Man gauntlet that lets you keep your fingers even when armoured, yeah.

I would dearly love to see her and Tony debate something like that, though. Things like flexibility and functionality and recoil and joints, storage and retractability, principles of intimidating design. Mind you, I just like watching people geeking out together.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-05 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
As long as they don't have a "nyanyanya~" sound while shooting...

(Anonymous) 2017-08-05 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ryoko did it better.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-05 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Mabel Pines did it better, for that matter.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-05 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
for me it depends how hard they are to get on and off

in terms of 'not having fingers' they're about on par with, say, boxing gloves

those aren't dumb either, they just work in a particular context

and *everything* in wakanda goes with the #aesthetic so I'm cool with that bit

Pretty sure being punched in the face by them wouldn't feel too great, either.

Voltron hands

(Anonymous) 2017-08-05 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
WAAAAA it's just just like Iron Man so it suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. Shut the fuck up. Iron Man is played out and I'd rather see anything but him in every single new Marvel movie. Fuck him and fuck you.
nightscale: Starbolt (Shadowhunters: Isabelle Lightwood)

Well atm we don't know how they work, like is she supposed to be smacking people in the face with them or blasting people with energy or sonic beams? Because the latter requires range so I'm good with them if that's the case. Also it'd still hurt getting hit in the face with those I'd reckon.

Plus, everything in Wakanda has a panther-aesthetic going on so I'm down with it tbh.
