I get it but at the same time I find the mentality of "how dare they once not thank me for my effort, I will never rec to them again! On to The List with you!" kind of lol.

Thanks is nice, no doubt. But when I rec things it's with series I love to spread the love of that series, not as a favor to someone else for which I expect to be thanked, or else! Going in with that mindset, the internet will be a cruel place to you.

Also, to me it's like writing an exchange fic and not getting thanked by the recipient.

Maybe they won't appreciate the effort, but they aren't the only one who'll see your post. There's been more than one thing I've decided to try based on a response given to someone else's request.

I don't know about that comparison. I think not at least acknowledging a work in an exchange is further up on the shitty fandom behavior because that's something you requested specifics for and required (depending on the length of the exchange) a good deal more work than a rec list does.

It's the same idea but one is way worse.

oh, I agree. When I write something (especially if it's a pinch hit) I give the recip 6 months. If they say nothing in that time I take their name off the fic.

It's just that I've also know people who want to delete the story when that happens, and I always tell them that other people are likely reading/enjoying, even if the ungrateful slop the story was written for isn't.

I don't think it's like that. It's just...if you ask someone to do something for you, even if it's something small, thanking them and acknowledging their effort is a no brainer. If you can't be bothered to do that, then it's only sensible that the same people will be less inclined to help you in the future. Which is as it should be, IMO.
