Review/Analysis of DS9's "Tacking Into the Wind"

Odo, Cardassian-Bajoran relations, and the Klingon Empire are all falling apart. But somehow, this translates to one of the best episodes of the season.

To be honest, Trevorrow seems pretty crappy, so I'm not too broken up over this one. He always seemed like one of the most egregious possible examples of young white male directors getting massive opportunities without actually being qualified for them (probably second after Josh Trank).

Beard rings

(Anonymous) 2017-09-05 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
James Cameron just made me start thinking about these.

Why do so many older guys have them? It's always dad types or blue-collar white guys, and, I guess, old film directors.

What is the point of them? Does anyone find them attractive? Is it supposed to give people a certain impression? I just don't get them.

Mushrooms

(Anonymous) 2017-09-05 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so grossed out by the nasty mushrooms in my yard. They grow in little clumps and last for about two days before becoming ragged-looking, while dusting the ground around them with gray spores, then they disintegrate into a horrible black heap of mush. And they smell. Today was a nice day, I had the window open and a breeze kept blowing in, carrying on it the unpleasant scent of rotten mushroom heaps.

And then I found a common stinkhorn in the backyard, too.

Autism question(s)

(Anonymous) 2017-09-06 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I know a few people on this comm are on the spectrum, so I have a question (or, a couple):

I have been, after a couple people bringing up the possibility to me, considering the possibility that I am on the spectrum. It wouldn't be severe, maybe akin to what used to be Aspergers (idk if that is considered "low" or "high" on the spectrum tbh), but it would explain a lot tbh. I'm not sure though. So, is it worth it to get tested for autism as an adult? What is the process of getting tested as an adult? Has anyone here done it, and how did it go for you? Is it expensive? What are the benefits of a diagnosis, if it does end up being true? Or, if its not severe and I am able to function, should I just not bother?

Thanks for any input in advance.

Are short story collections okay? If so, I rec Skeleton Crew by Stephen King. I've only read a few of the stories so far, but they are all great, and I bet the rest are too. I particularly recommend The Jaunt. Horror scifi, what could be better?

The Specialty of the House by Stanley Ellin

It's a short story collection and used to be super hard to find but I found it on Kindle about a year ago. I first heard of it here on FS years ago and it was out of print but highly sought after so I paid new hardcover price for a used paperback. I've never regretted it!
