Yeah, this is one of the things I will always appreciate about DB.

But personally I wish that argument had never been brought up in the canon because it has only served to add fuel to the fire. It was funny as a semi-serious joke, it's not funny when it's being addressed in the show. Both Gohan and Goten turned out completely fine without any daddy issues (and Goten was super happy to meet his dad the first time during the Buu saga) and people end to forget that Chichi is also their parent.

Sorry for the rant but I have a lot of feelings regarding this.

Gotta disagree about Gohan. Goku's lack of understanding of Gohan as a person nearly caused the planet to be destroyed when they faced Cell. And Gohan seems to regard the guy who kidnapped him as his father figure.

Also, kids turning out fine doesn't necessarily correlate to parents being good parents.

...You got me there and I can't say I disagree. Goku did thought that Gohan had that innate fight instinct all the Saiyans have.

And Gohan seems to regard the guy who kidnapped him as his father figure.

I'd say he regards both Goku and Picolo as their father figures and mentors.
