Honestly that ending was a little upsetting just because I did have an abusive parent. And I have no doubt she did truly love me, she was just really insecure and fucked up and terrified of me ever leaving her so she hurt me, a lot.

But so many times I've been told it doesn't matter because she loved me and she did the fucked up things out of love. And just... no, that's a horrible way of thinking. So seriously, fuck Yondu getting a free pass for the way he treated Peter because he wuvved him vewwy vewwy much.

I never understand this way of thinking either. In general, too. Doing horrible things out of love do not in fact make those things in any way less horrible.

I think this is what bothers me about the situation, too. We're not talking about tough love here. Peter's childhood sounds pretty bad, and sweeping all that under the rug because "Yondu really loved you" just... nah.

Yeah, my parents weren't abusive in the "locked in my room and corporeal punishment" sense, or even just the "tear down my self-esteem" sense, but they were both addicts and didn't always get the whole "parenting" thing. And I didn't loathe Yondu, but he was a horrible parent. I wasn't sad when he died. Maybe if he'd survived and spent movie 3 realizing he was a shit parental substitute, and (awkwardly) tried to make up for it, and then died, but... no.
