Everyone knows Fayjay because she's prolific, reads for major fandoms, and has written extremely popular fics in her fandoms. She is not the only reader of polished podfic. That's like saying that BNFs in fandom are the only people writing worthwhile fanfic and the rest of it is proof that fanfic is intrinsically shitty and derivative. Performance, even shitty performance, is a creative contribution to fandom. Just like shitty anime Destiel fanart done in ms paint is a contribution to fandom.

I've just noticed that for all this talk of "levels" and being "on par" and "what is art, really", every person arguing for the inherent inferiority of podfic can't help but resort to these little digs about how awkward, ill thought-out, and unprofessional it is. For people who write fanfic, it's hilariously lacking in self-awareness.

For the record, this anon doesn't especially care which "level" vocal performance gets on your ranking of creativity, but I am seriously starting to see where the podficcers are coming from.

the lack of self-awareness are the people who think they're much better at podficcing than they really are.
