Re: So, what is a brony?
I guess a good example is Star Trek. Not every one who enjoys Star Trek is a "Trekkie." The Trekkies are the people who are really into it.
Now the issue becomes murky when you realize that a lot of Brony fandom is, frankly, fucked up. Imagine if Bioware RPG fandom was dominated by the weirdos on the Bioware forums. That's pretty much what happened to Bronies. This didn't really happen to Trekkies (or at least it isn't that way now) because the fandom wasn't so weird and hostile.
So when we call someone a Brony in a derogatory sense, we mean this:
and not just someone in a pony shirt. Generally, people who think being a Man Who Likes A Girl Cartoon constitutes a big part of their identity are the issue. It's perfectly possible to watch a good Lauren Faust cartoon without being weird about it.

But usually we have a sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves. Bronydom is so out there, I'm still not certain if the proposal to make "brony" the b in lgbt was entirely a troll, and if so, trolling whom.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-06 05:27 am (UTC)(link)That is no man. That right there is a little boy who probably needs to stop fantasizing that he's John Galt and go clean his room and finish his homework because he loses his ice cream privileges.
