I quit this show long before the ending, but based on the early stuff at least I totally read Mari as being straight too, mainly because she seemed to be EXACTLY the diabolical sort of jerk who would string along a gay friend with a crush on her just to keep them in her power circle. I mean, she was that evil, seriously.

Don't know about the rest of the show, maybe they improved her portrayal and made her seem more sincere, in which case reading her as bi should totally be an option. But I read her as a straight Machiavellian jerkwad who had REALLY REALLLY big issues with actual men during the first 10 or so episodes I actually watched before ragequitting the whole show in disgust (and yes, yes... I've heard it "gets better" but I picked up the later episodes where it supposedly got better and hated them too, so clearly SF was just not the show for me).

(but Goto? come on dude had to be at least a little bi!)

I'm sorry to hear about your terrible taste in TV shows.

Yeah, well, I'm sorry about yours too. :(

Wow, this is a new form of Mari bashing, as if there wasn't enough of that in this small fandom.

(And honestly, Mari does care about Moe, even if not as much as she cares about herself)

Don't be absurd. If you don't care about someone more than yourself, you don't really care about them at all. /sarcasm

The point of Mari was that she was a shitty human being until KT tortured her and then after she had the big fight with Mizuki and Moe she became a better person.

Maybe the evidence that she really cares about Moe came up after the point I stopped watching? I don't doubt that you're correct, since I'd like to believe she isn't as terrible as she came off in those first episodes I saw. I'm not especially invested in my impression of her as a terrible human being, but that WAS my legit impression? If I liked the show more I would have hung on and maybe seen the stuff that makes her more of a redeemable human being, but from what I saw, she seemed pretty vile.
