Whenever there is a big cultural overview of my country, I get upset when Nemesis isn't included.

Re: Songs you liked as a kid that you didn't realize were dirty

God, but I hate that Flo Rida song.

It took me a few listens before I realized that the 'My name is Carrie, I'm so very fly. Oh my, it's a little bit scary...' song is really degrading to any woman who is not the singer.

I'd have to get the rundown from my partner as to which sermon it is exactly. I've had the good fortune of only attending church a few times when visiting relatives.

...And if you haven't finished it, it's a huuuuge spoilertown spoiler.

I had no idea about tightlining but once I discovered it my makeup looks much better.

At least one community on the internet decided to stand up against semes abusing ukes.

If they're ignorant enough to ask the question, it's a real possibility...

I haven't done any research so this is just speculation. But I strongly suspect that the reason there's a well-known term for anti-semitism and not so much for other kinds of racism has to do with the origins of modern anti-semitism and the fact that they're historically quite distinct from the origin of other racist ideologies.

I said partly. There are other reasons. One being that I like the books.

And no. Pissing off people who judge my reading material makes me feel warm and cuddly inside. As if I just ate a kitten.

I actively hunt fetish art of my OTP and feel sad when there isn't any.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-01 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
i've seen what you're talking about up to and including pro-nazi trolling. f!s has it's gross shit stains just like reddit and any other internet hangout. and i agree, when assholes are saying "the nazis should've done a better job" (to paraphrase a quote i've actually seen on here), the mod needs to freeze that shit or delete it or employ a helper mod to do it for him.

for the record, i'm neither jewish nor pro-israel. i just think it's tasteless trolling.

oh for fuck.

Is it really so painful to not go out of your way to be deliberately disrespectful to someone because they believe something you find ridiculous?

Yes, you shouldn't have to believe this stuff the religious try to ram down your throat, but this is a level beyond that.

Re: What are you doing for New Years?

[personal profile] making_excuses 2015-01-01 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's all done, I ate turkey with my step family, watched the fireworks and now I am back home. Thinking of going to sleep in a bit. I also had a glass of aquavit - because I am very Norwegian.

We also played a game, which I will explain in great detail because I can here: You throw two dice and if you get two of the same number you can choose one of three gifts, and so it goes for 3 minutes, you can also take one of another player but when the timer beeps you are "safe" and the gift is yours. (also you are not allowed to know how long we have played so no tactics)

We've done it every year* and it is awesome! Tho we do have some long standing grudges. I always take the present from my father if I can, because one year he did it to me.

Anyway it is fun, the presents are just small things and it is a nice way to spend the time between food and fireworks.

*I haven't for a couple of years as I have spent New Years with friends.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-01 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Annoying militant fans who pretend their head canons are such ~important representation~ piss me off.

But the people who act like they're so *special* and *oppressed* because they ship someone who isn't a white guy are in the same fucking boat as far as I'm concerned.

See above comments, but I regardless of how I put it, I'm going to offend people with this. What I have to say about the end of the game isn't favorable to people who liked it or people who take bible lessons to heart. I firmly support a person's freedom of religion but in this case I'm going to have to say that the conceits used to end the game are a total load of shit and isn't based in reality, much like the sermon it was taken from.

Because we've been hatin' Jews for over 2000 years and we're not gonna stop.

You did? I am happy you didn't get hit!

Come to Lillehammer! We will definitively have snow! And I have a cat!

Serious answer: You are in The US? New York or something there is a ball that drops or something? Or go to the beach, anywhere really, fireworks are pretty at the beach!

No?

Ah, then keep doing the great job you're doing, and happy New Year.

If this secret is serious and not just another trolling attempt, I think you've got a basic misunderstanding (or at least, unrealistic expectations) of what it means to moderate a community. It doesn't mean "make sure that nobody says anything bad, ever". That's just not realistic for what is a volunteer position run by a person who has a job and family and a life outside of FS. You do know that, right? You do understand that in a community like FS, it's not feasible for a person to sit there 24/7 waiting to pounce on any horrible thing an anon might post, right?

So... what's your beef again?

The Holocaust in which somewhere between 5 million and 15 million non-Jews were killed? And yes I know that's not how the term is used, but frankly I've never agreed with that usage. Of course none of that mitigates in any way the horrific nature of the crime committed against the Jews and humanity.

But as to the term anti-Semitism, it goes back to the mid-19th century so I doubt it's historically linked to the Holocaust.
