It was already awkward. She found out because she was pushing him to cough up stuff he didn't particularly wanna cough up. Not that that makes it her fault, but when he was clearly trying to say "no" she should have left it.

Instead, she finds out that he has feelings for her and that makes it super awkward.

So, he decides to confront it head on and go ahead and tell her, with NO EXPECTATIONS AT ALL, to just go ahead and let it out so he could finally move on. And he does just that when he says "Enough" at the end.

And he didn't expect closure from her. He was expecting to just go on and not ever think about that again.

And besides, it was obvious he was trying to keep all of that secret to keep it from being super awkward between them all. We dunno how his friend would have reacted since the writers didn't focus on the friend's end of everything. Apparently, the guy cared enough about his best friend to make their wedding memorable, but to also keep such a secret from them so as not to complicate matters.

And it would have stayed that way had she not pushed him over a rather small thing.

Sorry. I just believe that if it's out, you should just go ahead and be truthful. Sure, he could have told them both, and maybe he eventually tells his bff, but not doing anything would have made it worse for them both. Now he has the opportunity to move on and maybe find someone else who CAN share his heart.
