Don't judge. You don't know their situation. Some people are disabled, or otherwise unable to get "a real job."

Personally I make money from my writing, but I'm not going to judge someone who's on food stamps. I'm lucky to be able to earn money and I hope things improve for them.

Honestly sometimes people seem to have zero empathy or to realize that, y'know, not everyone's situation is the same as yours. And yes, we know, you walked two miles to school uphill both ways thru the snow so anyone can do it, right? :/

It is weird as seems some commenters never been through a process of getting any assistance - it is long, hard and humiliating. I am very visibly disabled and thus far almost at the end of getting it accepted in UK. At it since 2010. Food stamps in US are a but easier but not much plus they make you constantly have people judge you and anxious and crap - there is also strict criteria and most people who can afford a job to cover their expenses would never make that choice. 300 might buy you food but there is rent, utilities, tax and other expenses.

Someone mentions free courses but none sans basic math and languages exist in my city. Volunteering is usually a scam where places like Oxfam use you as a proper worker while you lose time and transport fees. Never seen any volunteering in admin jobs.

I'm sorry. That sucks. :(

The worst part is - it doesn't suck as am lucky - thousands of people literally died (usually from starvation and it was directly related to Ian Duncan Smith ... scarier is that those are official estimates - from 2k to 4k people). Can't complain at all.

I'm an athiest, but what IDS and the Tories did makes me hope there's an afterlife waiting for them.

I hope things improve for you.
