Re: Pets Thread

I have a cat and I don't think it's possible to love him more. I rescued him myself in the dead of winter as a kitten when I found him in my parking lot, and we immediately bonded. He plays fetch, he's clever as fuck, he's simultaneously a little asshole and a loving friend. Plus, he's beautiful. He's grey - I never was particularly drawn to grey cats before, but his fur really shimmers (he's considered "blue" in cat terms).

The worst part is, he's not with me now. I had to relocate to a big city for work, and he was too used to living in my parents' house (where I lived before). They have a big house in a quiet small town with a fenced backyard so he can play outside (no, he doesn't leave the yard, except when he goes for walks on the leash). Unfortunately, here in my city all I can live in is a tiny studio, and though I desperately wanted to bring him, he definitely wouldn't be happy. It's too small, and there's not even a window view to watch the birds or anything, and he'd never be able to go outside or even touch grass (too much concrete, even if I tried to walk him). Really tough decision, but my parents adore him, too, so at least I can skype every weekend! My mom knows as long as she keeps the cat, I will keep visiting home regularly, too, lol.

I really am an animal lover and have thought about getting a pet here. I prefer cats, but again, it's not a good place for a cat to live. It's not really a great place for a dog, either, even if they are easier to walk outside, it's just too small.

I've thought about getting a ferret, which I had as a kid. Much better for a tiny studio. The only problem is, they are illegal in so many places and I move a lot. It'd be a risky adopt, and I definitely can't dump another pet on my parents.

I have a tuxedo cat named Lou who can never get enough attention from my family, but no one outside our family has ever seen more of him than his eyes shining from behind the couch because he's terrified of everyone else.

Boris and Hotspur: http://imgur.com/bXbE6LT (this is from over a month ago; Hotspur has grown a lot since then! He is now over 7 lbs.)

Boris is predominantly Russian Blue. He had a "sister" (rescued from same location, same age, but not litter mates) named Natasha who passed away last May. Boris is a quiet gentle giant who doesn't meow, he squeaks! Such a little voice from such a big kitty! He is very shy around strangers, and will hide. He'll turn 2 this year. Boris is a bit of a lap cat, mostly with my dad, but likes to snuggle along side people he knows and trusts. He gets a bit put out by Hotspur's antics, but is still big enough to easily win their (friendly, not violent) wrestling matches.

Hotspur is an orange tribble who our vet thinks has some Maine Coon in his ancestry- he has very large ears and paws, indicating he will grow very large, and tufted ears. Hotspur is an extroverted cat. He is a a total lap cat, and loves to sleep on his back with his paws up. He is around 6 months old and was neutered earlier this month, poor baby, but it's necessary!

Our main word for Hotspur is "fierce," because he loves to play and chase toys, especially feathered toys. He makes so many great "ek ek ek ek!" noises to his prey and when he's caught it, he'll hold it in his mouth and GROWL. It's so funny. My mom and I both had bad colds last month and took a lot of Dayquil; Hotspur found one of the little empty plastic/foil blister packs on the floor where it had missed the recycle bin and he started batting around the kitchen like a soccer ball/hockey puck. So each time we took more meds, we gave him a new toy and he started to come RUNNING when he heard us opening one of the blister packs. He loves those things, it is hilarious.

I have an Otterhound who I call Drummer, although he seems to prefer "hearth rug" since that is what spends as much of his time trying to imitate. Seriously, you take him to any room and the first thing he'll do is try and fire a fireplace or a stove of some sort, even if it is off or unlit, and just sort of flop out in front of it.

I call him Drummer because when I got him as a pup he kept sneaking out of the house and sitting in the rain. I remember saying he didn't have enough sense to come in out the rain and was going to call him Rainhound, but then a friend pointed out that someone who sits around staring vacantly and has no idea when to come in is a Drummer.

my cat is a little baby. he's not used to other cats, and we moved, so now when he sees neighborhood cats prowling around outside, he'll run upstairs and give me an insistent meow and demand I look at the other cats with him. in a weird way, I think he likes playing security guard because it gives him something to watch for during daylight hours. he'll also sit on the couch with me when I play video games. I love him.

Currently I have a dog. She is a husky mix and I adore her, even if she's high maintenance and kind of a jerk. (My dog is very cat-like. Which is fitting I suppose, since my cat was very dog-like.) Right now she is not happy with me because last weekend we did not go hiking due to weather, and this week's walks have been very short due to cold as hell winds and temps.

I originally adopted her for hiking. I was picturing this very Journey of Natty Gann wolf companion. Instead I got the cutest tiniest husky mix that looks more like a pampered coyote than a wolf. She is also not very good as far as 'protection' on my hiking, but she is excellent company.

My cat thinks she's my therapy animal and gets worried about me if I'm upset or pushing myself physically. She follows me around sometimes, trying to get me to stop and rest. She's such a dear and I don't know how I'll handle it when she's not here anymore. She's getting older, but still pretty healthy. She's a small calico and very soft, with big sweet eyes and a gentle, slightly skittish personality. She likes to cuddle, sleep next to me, and knead alot. She was born feral but that didn't last. She's probably my best friend in the world.

My roommate has a cat, he's a little douche but I love him anyway. He's frightened of pretty much everyone but me and the roommate, but when we've had other roommates he's eventually learned to trust them too. He's all black, but had some siamese ancestry, because half his littermates looked like siamese cats, blue eyes, points, and all. All the little bugger got on that score is his voice--he can get really noisy. My dogs have both passed away, and neither of them ever played fetch, but the cat will. When the roommate moves out--she's waiting on a promotion so she can afford her own place--I think I'm gonna miss the cat more than her, even though we grew up together.

I have five hens and I've ordered some more to raise over the summer, but they'd cheerfully eat me if I fainted in their coop. I'll be done with school in May and I'm thinking of getting a cat or a couple of kittens because chickens can be fun to watch but they can't exactly sleep on my bed. (I'm sure someone's tried it, but I'm not gonna.)

I have a boykin spaniel who is a troubled youth. Her troubles began in the womb, when all her brothers and sisters got all tangled up and only two out of a litter of fifteen survived. This made her the fattest puppy ever since there was no competition for milk. Her sister stayed pretty trim, but my baby girl was a total fatty. She had puppy rolls on her puppy rolls.

Her troubles continued when we brought her home. Her separation from her mom and her single littermate left her crying for a couple days. Two weeks in, our ancient poodle died in her sleep. She presumably got sick of having a puppy around and took the only way out she knew how. So, another loss for my baby girl.

She compensated with alcohol and cigarettes.

I kid you not. Damn dog started eating cigarette butts and sneaking her snoot into our drinks. We tried our best to keep her away from both, but you try keeping a puppy away from street litter. Impossible! ...she soon developed brand preference.

...and then she started hitting other dogs in the face.

She's settled into herself at the ripe old age of three and a half, and by that I mean we've gotten used to her occasional need for a tobacco fix, some hard cider, a street fight, and the odd domestic in the front yard when she refuses to come inside. The neighbors have taken to watching us argue with the dog when this happens. It's a little embarrassing.

She's lucky she's pretty.

I don't have any of my own. But I volunteer at the local shelter. And there is this one little girl cat that I am so proud of. She's been there longer than any of the other cats (they have a very fast turnover rate, but she's been there several months). When I first met her, she was really mean and just didn't like people or other cats at all. But I've been working with her. Now she comes to me for pets when she sees me as soon as I come in. I think she'll probably be adopted soon because she's really mellowed out and become a sweetheart.

I have a dog named Bunny who will be 14 next month. She's a West Highland Terrier and an absolute sweetheart. Sadly, she's not a lap dog, so we don't spend as much time together as I do with either of the cats.

I have a cat named Jean Grey XX who will be 11 next month. She's my soulmate. I adore her.

And finally, there's Georgie, the kitten we adopted three years ago this June. She's a brat. My dad is her favorite and vice versa, and he spoils her rotten. They're basically attached at the hip, at least most of the time. She & I are close as well, but she has like an unbreakable bond with my dad. She's obsessed with him, and he is with her.

My family has three cats:

One older lady who's 17 this year and two younger kitties both at about 8 or 9 months I think.

The older cat is a bit grumpy, mostly wants cuddles or to be left alone, she's still very cute though.

The younger two are very curious, like to get in everything and the boy-kitty absolutely loves being picked up and cuddled, the girl not so much but when she does sit on people she'll stay there for hours.

Job woes/rants/kill me

(Anonymous) 2017-03-17 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I've complained about my job pretty much every time there is a thread about it, so I'm sorry, friends, but I'm to the point (again) where I wish I could go in tomorrow and quit on the spot. After today, I'm just so frustrated and feel so emotionally beat up and unappreciated for the work I do. My boss is constantly gaslighting me, making me feel like a bad employee for not literally reading her mind or remembering the conversations that she makes up there and then about things I supposedly said I would do. I'm to the point where I'm doubting my ability as a worker, even though I know she makes shit up and bullies me despite me always staying late, putting in unpaid overtime, constantly managing multiple projects, always being cheerful as fuck. I recently applied for an internal position which I'm more than qualified for (in fact, it's all tasks I already do, they are just creating a new position to divide the work since right now I'm tasked with way too much than a single human can handle) and today I was told I wasn't even going to be interviewed. Yet my boss will then act like my best friend, all friendly, inviting me to her house and offering to give me rides, give me her extra TV, get super involved and want to play matchmaker in my life and try to set me up on dates with her various acquaintances (I'm gay but she'll never get to know that). And she'll act like I'm so lucky to have my job since I was "picked from hundreds of applicants".

Seriously, I can't take this. I'm emotionally exhausted and anxious every day because I anticipate her yelling at me or tearing me down about something, and apparently I'm not even worth an interview for a position I'm capable of doing (not even offended if they hire a more qualified candidate than me, but to not even take a few minutes to listen to what I have to say?)

I just want to quit. But I have rent and bills and I can't. I feel so beat up and humiliated and I can't even leave. I applied for a few positions tonight, but the thought of staying here for several months while I job hunt makes me want to cry. I wish a potential employer would call me first thing tomorrow and interview me over the weekend or something. This job is wrecking me.
