When King manages the humans, I find him good too. But in some of his books the monsters are memorable and multifaceted and the humans cardboard cut-outs. The wasted potential is annoying.

Oh, i agree, especially with his more recent stuff? Tbh what frustrates me with King is that once you've read a lot of his books it becomes kinda easy to see the tropes and twists he likes? Spent a good part of my teenage/YA years reading pretty much all of his novels, and now whenever i pick up a new one it just feels like i can see all the wiring behind it. That's what i get for reading pretty much just one author for so long, i guess. Good for him for writing what he likes, but it's become a bit hard for me to get into it. :P
