Games thread!

ASK A... round 2, because round 1 was fun

(Anonymous) 2017-03-20 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
1. post with something about yourself in the subject line. can be a profession, maybe a hobby, a nationality, anything that applies to you and that people might have questions about. example: ... "teacher", "person from italy", "parent", "person who owns 4 cockatoos", anything goes.
2. ask others questions!
3. get answers!

... person from Germany

History questions are fine, too. And I'm living in the part that used to be East Germany, with both parents having grown up there.

What's the general feel on foreigners/immigrants? I've seen a lot of the angry populist movement in the news, but I"m wondering if that's actually as strong a movement or it just makes the news a lot?

What kind of perspective does your history education provide on German conflicts besides World War II? Particularly interested in the Franco-Prussian Wars (and other wars of German unification), Napoleonic Wars, and 30 Years War.

Also, how do you / people in your generation think about the legacy of East Germany and the Communist period?

Since you've said you're from East Germany, this is kind of specific but have you ever seen the movie Good Bye Lenin and how do you feel about it? I love the movie, but I'm an American just commenting on it cinematically.

Do you think England has just been damn ungrateful over the last century, considering that it was Germans who bailed them out of the whole Napoleon mess and were basically responsible for the allies winning at Waterloo?

How much time per week or per day does wrangling/modding the community take?

Do you have a job in a related field - and if not have you ever considered community management as a career?

Do your friends know about FS?

Do you ever check IPs to see if comments were made by the same person just out of curiosity, or do you only do it when there's some issue that you have a more official reason to weigh in on?

Re: ...internet mod?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-20 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Caaaase!

1) How do you never miss days, and always update so consistently? Are there like ten of you? Do you have tricks to make it faster to slog through and post all our secrets?

2) How often do you hate us?

3) Have you ever gone anon and started wank?

Re: ...internet mod?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-20 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
From another internet mod, do you ever feel being a mod sort of took you out of the community? When I've been a mod, I've felt like I had to play the Mommy at first, and right now I feel more like the Grandma who lives in Florida but flies up north to visit for Christmas. (Fortunately they're good "kids", so it's not a problem.) Of course, I imagine in FS's case it's different since you're more actively engaged, and I don't know if FS is the only place you mod or not.

I just want to say I'm impressed with your dedication to run this as long as you have.

Has it always been just you and have you ever thought of having someone else help? Not asking, just curious if it's manageable enough for you. Really big kudos for sticking with us all these years, I've noticed so many communities die.

Why are you such a bitch, and on a hair trigger about deleting threads? You deleted the most active thread in the whole comm yesterday, just because the OP didn't get 100% unequivocal gushing. If people put up a public question they should expect the public to answer how they feel.

I'd also like to know why you so blatantly play favorites too. I know for a fact that when I've had abuse dumped on me, and asked for a thread freeze, you never do that.

Young Earth Creationism even, along with other fundamentalist Christian beliefs

If you want to ask about how I am now, where I freely admit to picking and choosing parts of the Bible and other aspects of Christian mythology to pay attention to, go right ahead and do that too.

Don't worry about offending me.

Though I'm not a real native.

I can take related question (like on being multilingual). Or also on spending time in non traditional education. Or travel.

Really, just ask me whatever :)

Re: ASK... about life in one of America's most dangerous neighborhoods

[personal profile] soldatsasha 2017-03-21 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
From an article I dug up about it, the chance per year of being the victim of a violent crime (rape, assault, murder, armed robber, etc.) are 1 in 11. ime it was probably much higher than that, more like 50% or higher since many were victims of multiple violent crimes, but the vast majority of crimes were never reported.

The area I lived in was predominantly black, with a smaller hispanic minority. I was the only white kid on our street. It was a big deal.
