I love monster characters, especially the ones who aren't remotely cutesy (i.e. naga tail but totally human upper half), they're just bizarre, but with their own inhuman grace. I can't explain why, either. Maybe something to do with the creativity that goes into making monstrous anatomy appealing? Sometimes it's a miss with me (I repeat, cutesy), but when it's a hit, damn.

I'm really interested in the psychology behind why we react to certain monstrous features the way we do. The sort of thinking that goes into the designs of aliens and things.

Totally, I'm on the extreme end with my appreciation for eyeless monstrosities with rows of shark teeth, but on the milder side, slapping some fangs and sharp nails on a hot person definitely sells, and I can't explain it. Maybe the way it adds a hint of restrained violence/power? An eight-foot half-ton horned demon with claws bigger than your face may not want to hurt you, but it's gonna happen if they aren't very careful and controlled. Control is very appealing.

If you're on the extreme end like me you'll love Maunderfiend's work, if you haven't seen it already (Maunderfiend is a BNF in the tumblr monster artwork world lol).

As for the topic at hand though, it's hard to place why I personally find this stuff hot. I don't even have to have characters that are big and bulky and look like they need to restrain themselves. I love the willowy, "pretty" (subjective here) monsters too. The kinds that look like they'd be a prince or princess in monster-land.

I just find the inhuman-ness hot for some reason? I've tried to play armchair-psychologist but I'm stumped!

Maunderfiend's namesake character is amazing, just the right combo of disturbing and cool (dem teeth), I just found them thanks to this post. Haha, maybe the control is my thing - I wouldn't be surprised lots of people get something different out of it, and I'm all about the predatory designs.
