I honestly don't why Serena(?) went from, presumably, a strategic killing machine like the other mermaids to like...sad waif. More murder mermaids please.

I like it too and I don't know why people insist on telling me I shouldn't.

Look, OP. I saw Van Helsing in theaters 6 times. 6. And it's a much worse film than CotBP.

But do you know why I did it? Because I LOVED IT. It made me happy and of course, I had (have) a HUGE crush on Hugh Jackman. It being a bad movie will never change that.

So be glad that CotBP made you happy. Especially during a rough time.

I love Van Helsing AND Curse of the Black Pearl <3

(Anonymous) 2017-07-11 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I saw it several times in the movie theater too. I'm not sure what enchanted me so much about it now, it's not really a fantastic movie, it's just a fun action flick. Oh well.

The first one is still my favourite from the lot and the one I'll re-watch with any kind of regularity, it's a fun 'don't think too hard about it' movie that just wants you to enjoy it. And I do.

Plus I'm over feeling embarrassed over what I like these days, life's too short for that.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-11 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I actually really like the newest one. But I (self admittedly) have a very low threshold for things I find enjoyable.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-11 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Dear OP, there's nothing wrong with enjoying bad things. If your younger self loved that movie, good for them.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-11 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think that if you can somehow manage to go back to the first movie and especially Jack Sparrow without all the knowledge of the late films and... present day Johnny Depp, then it would be hard to deny that the character was something incredibly special. It was, at the time, a lightning in a bottle performance.

Don't worry about it.

One person seeing a movie 8 times doesn't make it a success. Lots and lots of people have to see it, and you seeing it 8 times didn't cause those other people to see it.

As for the sequels, no one was required to see those, so who cates if they exist?

PotC was a fun movie and you had every right to enjoy it, especially if that was something you needed at the time.

I don't know why people act like the first film is way above the rest. Barbosa is the most fun in it and it was surprisingly good for a movie based on a ride, but it loses a lot in rewatch.

The second one was a huge snooze, the third was full of surprises and actually my favorite. After the original writing team was gone I didn't bother.

Travis McElroy is using FS and trying to throw us off the scent by saying that this OP who isn't him saw Pirates of the Caribbean 8 instead of 9 times.
On the small chance that this isn't a mbmbam joke, you can take comfort in the fact that there's a man out there who paid for one more Pirates ticket than you.

I feel like the only person who loved the 3rd movie.

People keep parroting that the 3rd sucked and that the 1st is the only decent one... and I never understood why. Because it's too long? Maybe people have short attention spans.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-11 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, the 3rd movie would be great for short attention spans. It had a million different characters and plotlines, all going off in different direction often with little to no payoff. Being long does not mean it was at all cohesive.

There's some beautiful images in the 3rd movie. The 1st is still my favourite though. It does what it needs to do and it does it well. Turning it into a huge saga was a mistake.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-11 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's hardly a harmful film, nothing to feel bad about. And since the others have fans in this thread, I'll declare I adore the second PotC and have watched it more times than I can count.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-13 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I saw it seven times in the theatre. I just kept inviting all my friends to go, and saying yes anytime someone invited me. It's a really fun movie! I haven't seen it in a while so I don't know if it holds up, but I have no regrets.
