Laureline, her name is Laureline. The comics' title has been Valérian, agent spatio-temporel for a few issues before switching to Valérian et Laureline and yes, it's irksome that she gets excluded from their title again.
I heard the animated series kept both names, maybe you can check it up instead?

I think the comic keeps both their names in the titles but I mean you didn't even care enough to go look her name up.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, having not read the comic series I coulda sworn it was the name of their ship. Sounds like a ship's name to me.

I guess that would be Valaurelina lmao

lollllllllllll

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
All I can think of is that valerian is seriously nasty smelling. It smells like sweaty ass crack and spoiled milk. It's seriously the worst thing ever. Why would you name your character after something so seriously unpleasant?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's French originally, and the French love the smell of sweaty ass crack

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
But you have technicolor dreams and no pain when you take it. Well worth the a minute of old milk taste.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It occasionally allows me to sleep so I am willing to accept the ass smell though. Just hold your nose and take it in capsule form.

this is the real Valerian discourse I am here for

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. I don't know fuck all about the comic, but male hero in the trailer and male name in the title - what else did you think it was?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think the OP said they didn't know that "Valerian" was the male character's name, and from the trailer it did look like it was going to be both of them working together, so it's easy to see how they'd be confused.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only that, she has to wear boob sock armor.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
boob sock spacesuit

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The trailer made it look like he was main character and she was just the "faux action girl" love interest, or at best a sidekick. I wouldn't have expected her name to be in the title.

Anyway, I figure the movie's going to be bad because the settings and effects look like they're designed to be as cool as possible to distract from the lack of substance, as usual.

Are you familiar with Luc Besson's filmmaking style? because that's basically his whole raison d'etre

Well I thought it was gonna be a movie about the applications of traditional herbal medicine, so I guess we are both disappointed.

Pretty sure this movie is going to be this year's Jupiter Ascending.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
So...a movie that bombs and everyone hates because it has girl cooties? And that I absolutely love? Well, damn.

Jupiter Ascending has an absolutely massive cult following, you realize. It was a commercial bomb but a large amount of people love that movie to death. It definitely seems possible that the same thing will happen to this movie, but there are far worse fates for a movie, and I don't think it's necessarily a reflection on the movies' quality.

Like, I've seen several people say that they hope it's going to be like Jupiter Ascending.

You do you, I guess -I'm gonna enjoy the fuck out of it.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-15 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I would actually be interested in this movie if the main characters we're anyone but these two. They both look obnoxiously pouty and I have exactly 0 interest in watching these characters do anything.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-16 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the polar opposite. I would have basically zero interest in this movie if it weren't for the leads, both of whom I find unusually appealing. I fucking love Dane DeHaan, both because I find him attractive and because imo he's a good actor. And I like Cara Delevingne quite a bit, and also find her extremely pleasing to look at.

I can see how if you didn't like the look of one of them, you wouldn't like the look of the other, though. They are very similar looking. In fact, they look way more like siblings that 95% of the characters who are actually supposed to be siblings usually look.

I loved this comic as a kid, in large part because Laureline was totally badass and often way more competent than Valerian, despite him being a man from the future, and sher a girl from the Middle Ages. She adapted to space very well. :) She is most decidely not just a sidekick.
