(Anonymous) 2020-11-04 03:22 am (UTC)(link)We have the benefit of hindsight, it's easy for us to see JGY's villainy because we're shown his villainy. Lan Xichen isn't. Just the opposite, in fact. His firsthand experiences of JGY are of a young man who's had a really hard life, has very little cultivation in a culture where that matters hugely, and despite all that has worked hard to be the right hand man of two sect leaders, all while keeping his temper and never blaming others - even people who frankly, ought to be blamed, like his own biological father.
I think a lot of people forget that, or they just didn't grasp the nuance in the first place. It's not an accident that the two brothers trusted two different people and ended up with two very different results, it's not like oh no, the author forgot to write Xichen the happy ending he deserves. A lot of good people didn't get happy endings in this story.
