106. I just got the novel today. Fuck the elitists. =| Seriously. Sure we're getting into it because of he movie, but we can't help it that was the way we were introduced to it. However way they found it first, it was just by chance. They could very well have just found out the way we did.

The movie looks awesome, and from the tiny bit I've read so far, the comic is too. Don't let other people keep you from checking out something you may love.

....haha. I use to have a friend who was like that too. Not with her anymore, but if Ed/Winry is the pairing you are talking about, that was he pairing she was obssessed with too. In fact I'd laugh if we were thinking about the same person. She's a bit of a BNF in the Ed/Winry fandom, I think.

With all due respect, I don't think Clavell's soap operas present any more or less a realistic view of the culture than the average Jidaigeki film would. Possibly less as at least Japanese media is produced primarily by native Japanese.

If I were to encourage anything it would be for them to actually study the culture and history directly. (Speaking as a longtime Japanophile who still likely knows jack about the culture as I've never lived there, etc. etc.)
