106. Watch it. Just watch it. Who cares what they think?

116. Well at least not everyone loved her. Mary-sues tend to be loved by everyone in those stories.

131. Aww... poor tubby Rorscach.

148. Ugh. that annoys me so much too.

[identity profile] sanae.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
151. Man, I loved Unicorn Jelly (despite totally losing any idea of what was going on near the end -- hey, I was like thirteen) and was pretty disappointed years later when I found out how completely crazy JDR was. (Wasn't bothered by the transsexuality, just the crazy.)

[identity profile] miss-yuka.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
165. This just reminds me how much I enjoyed telling my friends that Jason Dohring is a scientologist and watch them freak out :>

I thought he'd left and now speaks out against it?

120 - My first celebrity crush was on Corey Feldman, it happens to the best of us.

133 - Awwww. I thought that too.

144 - I still love him, when you watch the episodes about it, it is clear that he was not in the right frame of mind, and then you find out other things later that prove more and more that Zack is still Zack. So, don't give up! King of Lab is still King of Lab in my heart.

108. Is that a To Wong Foo secret I see? You, OP, are awesome. But you know who I was really impressed with in this film? Wesley Snipes. Before I saw it, I would have laughed my ass off at the thought of him in drag, but he pulled it off better than I would have believed possible.

124. I love Depeche Mode, and that’s all I really have for this one.

140. I sometimes do this too, to be honest (I do random stuff like pick my meals at restaurants by what I think a musician, actor, author, whatever I’m a fan of would get, too). Also, Nick Cave? Delicious. Great taste there, OP.

146. I think you just caused a mini-explosion in my brain. Wow.

128. WTF are you talking about? I use hair color to give a description of people ALL THE TIME.

Isn't Ryan gay? Don't you know that gay men like MEN and not women? Uhm I'm sorry but he's SO gay. He's even out in the stage musical. So, yeah, keep dreaming.

[personal profile] azurite 2009-01-09 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
In the stage musical? Do you mean the concert? And when/where? And you ARE talking about the character, not the actor, right?

...And finally, remember that subtext =/= text. If the 3 movies portray him as a flamboyant guy who takes a girl to prom, for all we know, he could be:
* Bi
* In the closest
* Metrosexual
Or any number of things. If he doesn't say he's gay, it doesn't mean he IS or that he ISN'T. It just means the fans can interpret how they will, and the OP decided that s/he likes Ryan x Kelsi.

N!F Why does this creep you out, exactly? Does it creep you out that people write about themselves in their own blogs too?

106 What novels? Does he mean the comics? There's only one graphic novel of The Watchmen that I know of. Anyway, you should go see it if you want to.

111 Being properly educated about something doesn't make your total obsession with it any less irritating.

117 I wonder how old you are. Because a lot of women say that they absolutely don't want kids when they're pretty young (like still in their teens, or early twenties).

131 Jews can't celebrate Christmas?

140 All the Australian wine I've had tends to have pretty poor quality control (one bottle is great, another one of the same brand tastes like total ass).

150 I know you'll probably get a lot of flack for this but I kind of know what you mean. And it's irritating for me because I really need to actually work on my story instead of just obsessing over the characters or obsessing over certain scenes. I've redrawn this one scene for my comic over and over and over even though I haven't even drawn the first chapter.

152 I have a military uniform fetish and that certainly encompasses Nazi uniforms.

165 I love Hyde but that guy is just an actor portraying the character and I can hate him for being a Scientologist. I have personal reasons for hating Scientology, and besides, it's a cult that ruins peoples' lives.

[identity profile] killerqueen42.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
131. Well most don't unless it's a mixed parentage household or something. I'm jewish and i'd just feel... weird with a christmas tree.

Thank you! ♥
I'd do anything to look like the girl on the right, because she's not so bony. It's *not* fun to be super skinny -- I eat & eat, but I'm still rail thin, and I hate it. I do understand that some people love that look, but I'm *not* one of them, and I'd do *anything* to have some curves, be able to wear a dress without it looking like a sack on me, to be normal.
I know I shouldn't care, but all the 'skinny hate' makes me so very sad. ;_;
I hate going to the beach, although I love to swim. It's 'open season' on us skinny girls.
I'd just wish people would stop hating because of looks (fat/skinny/whatever)...

107. Fuck who are you! I love you and Merlin and Merlin fandom!

141. AGREE SO HARD.

110

[identity profile] opal-skies.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I think the historical details are irrelevant. It's a seperate, fantasy world that has no connection to the history of our own, cultures aside. Also, the Fire Nation wears asian clothing, eats Asian food with Asian utensils, etc. They also look just as Asian as any other group in the show. There are plenty of very pale Asian people. I don't see what imperialism or industrialism have to do with it.
Also, it's not Japanese-made, or technically an anime. The animation was done in -Korea-, though it's an American cartoon.

108. To Wong Foo love. All the boys did surprisingly well in drag and I don't think it's out of line to say this is Swayze's best film to date.

127. I only ship it (Starling/Lector) in Hannibal, not in the original, Jodie Foster, Silence of the Lambs.

163. I ship Bjork/PJ Harvey...which, is similar and comes with the same kind of guilt.

130. YOU REMEMBERED BLADE: THE SERIES! :-D You'd win a new car if I had a new car to give you.

137. King Randor is the man, and that's a really good CG of him. o_O

109: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHH okay. That's hilarious. I'd rather kill it, since it constantly comes out of nowhere and attacks me or one of my idiot teammates.

129. I think he is the most adorable creature alive, but NOOO I don't want to have sex with him. That is horrible. HE'S JUST SO CUTE.

There are no "novels". There is one graphic novel. One. But it is killer. You should read it before you see the movie.

I've read it years ago when it came out as a comic book mini series. And I can't wait for the movie.

Don't let your brother or anyone else spoil it for you. Go see it and read it.

ROTK may as well be renamed Liu Bei and his Justice Avengers. It's heavily Shu-biased due to politics at the time in which it was written. The bias also allowed for a David vs. Goliath story with Wei as the big bad evil kingdom. The novel overrates certain Shu generals, such as Ma Chao (credited for winning duels that never happened) and Guan Yu (who, in real life, was a poor commander who brought about his own demise by alienating former allies).

As you may guess, the opposite applies to Wei. In history, Cao Ren was a talented cavalry commander especially skilled at defense. Due to his achievements, he ultimately attained the rank of Grand Marshal. The vast majority of his campaigns and assignments were successful. The novel highlights one of his few failures, invents a loss to Liu Bei, and paints him as an incompetent buffoon during his defense of Fan - which was, in history, a military achievement that deserves much credit. I'm sure he's not the only one, as I've only scratched the surface of the anti-Wei liberties taken by Luo Guanzhong, but I find his case especially severe. The translation at http://threekingdoms.com is full of snide annotations about how gee whiz Cao Ren lost yet again, yet people familiar with history hold him in high regard.

If you want to look more into the history, check out the following resources. Beware of the addiction potential. I started looking up the histories of my favorite generals in the games to see what they were like in real life (hence the TAKE BACK WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT THOR tl;dr above), and now I'm hooked.

Kongming's Archives - Has translated Sanguozhi officer bios, which are far more historically accurate than not, and a message board with lots of history discussion.

Dr. Rafe de Crespigny's online publications. He also wrote a biographical dictionary of the early Han, which has information on a dizzying variety of people, but its asking price might be too steep.

I don't ship it, but I love both the characters a lot, and YAY FOR AN OZ SECRET!

No, that is not the most annoying thing done in fic. The most annoying thing done in fic is calling an eye "orb." WTF? It ain't magical, it's an eye!

143. I concur.
148. Oh God, I hate it when people refer to a character as "the" anything. It's okay to repeat the character's name; you don't have to say "the lithe blonde" or "the skanky whore" to avoid repetition. While we're on the subject, I also hate when people use the phrase "one [insert character name here]." It just sounds clunky, people.
165. I've come to really, really hate the words "I lose all respect for X when Y" (THANKS F!S). But uh...I actually do deduct a few IQ points from someone when I find out they're a Scientologist.

If Aang truly had gotten his cake and eaten it too then we would have seen some crap-tacular return of the airbenders and they all would have skipped off into "I'm really not the last of my race" land!

Instead we got a kid with flaws who stood up to the fire lord and in keeping with his beliefs defeated the fire lord and saved the world. Aang was willing to kill the fire lord once he realized there was no other way. Some people don't like the ending - fine. But I hardly see where Aang is a Stu.

*sigh*

Avatar fans take all the fun out of Avatar.

No wonder your friends leave you, bb. You don't know what love means.
