Everybody should switch because it's more realistic. Signed by a top who will never try bottoming. (Although I do agree there's a difference between top/bottom and dom/sub that should be made clearer)

People thinking dom/sub and top/bottom are the same thing makes me angry. Not the same thing. And sometimes doms bottom and sometimes subs top.

I feel like anyone who says that everyone switching is more realistic has never actually met any real gay people because that sure hasn't been my experience in real life. Almost everyone I know has a distinct preference for one over the other.

Sure, everyone has a preference. But preferences are preferences, not entire personality tropes as used by a lot of fandom.

For fuck's sake, "realistic"? People are making that argument about immortal characters with superpowers and what not?

Oh that's such a stupid argument. I mostly write my ships switching just because I like the variety, not to give myself some moral high-ground. If someone wants to write set top/bottom for their ships then they can. Hell I actually do for a few of my ships.

Yeah, the "realistic" argument is weird to me. I like switching in fics because I find it hot. The same way I like that not all fics use realistic refractory periods.

What a dumb argument. "It's more realistic - except in my case lol".

I think you misunderstood. I think the OP meant that the argument of "switching is more realistic" is the fandom topic/argument that gets them angry.
