:D I am genuinely glad that someone else has heard of Starflyer 59 because regardless of genre/religion/etc. they (well "he" mostly, hahah) are one of my all-time faves. Like, what is the audio equivalent of "my aesthetic", because it's that.

I remember Stryper and Daniel Amos when Xian music was hitting a little mainstream.

Hmm, I don't recall Daniel Amos (maybe a different era? I kinda got out of the scene in the early 90s specifically because as the OP of this secret notes, most of it was pretty awful - and that was about the time I discovered classic rock) but I think I remember Stryper? Clearly patterning themselves after any number of late 80s-early 90s secular metal bands, if I'm remembering the right band? I think they opened for Steve Taylor or something before they got big in their own right and thus I saw them once... I think my impression was they weren't bad, but by that time very few modern metal bands held up to Led Zep in my mind. XD

Oh, they were a hair-band, for sure. Terrifying in their black and yellow striped outfits, heh.

Daniel Amos was/is quirky and low key. I still actually like a couple of their songs. 'It's the 80's, Where's Our Rocket Packs' and 'William Blake' are my two favorite. Very techno.

DJanon would like to point you toward Terry Taylor's solo stuff and the Lost Dogs, if quirky is still your thing and you can stomach the occastional jesus. I loved DA but I definitely didn't hit them till the 90s, their earlier stuff didn't take with me until much later in life now that I'm old and can appreciate nuance even more. The Motorcycle album is honestly brilliant. Lost Dogs was the power group of lead singers from DA, the Choir, the 77s, and Adam Again.

DJanon, I worked at a christian rock station so hell yeah we played Starflyer! Not much because they were so almost-shoegazer that they didn't have a lot of really radio-friendly singles but their label always pushed them and I caught them live at Cornerstone once. They were a far better live band than radio.

Hah, yeah, I guess they wouldn't make for great radio. I kind of had to listen to the albums in their entirety, just a single song on its own would be a little jarring. A lot like Pink Floyd in that way.
