Re: What's the weirdest thing you've seen happen in your fandom?

In one close-knit fandom I was in during the LJ days, two BNFs (we'll call them Janet and Sheryl) who co-wrote a couple of very popular fics together had a brutal and sudden falling out. Out of the blue one day, Janet posted this letter to fandom claiming Sheryl was in love with her and had been creepy about it. After dropping this bomb, Janet basically went silent and only ever resurfaced occasionally to post the odd fic under a different name. Meanwhile Sheryl said she DID form an unhealthy level of attachment to Janet, but that it wasn't sexual, and that she told Janet she needed to step back a little because therapy had helped her realize she was too invested in the relationship. Janet claimed Sheryl had been obsessive and stalkerish in trying to contact her after her love confession was rejected. Sheryl claimed Janet cut off all contact and dropped her like a hot potato the instant she expressed being too attached, and that yes, Sheryl had repeatedly tried to contact Janet, but only because Janet had been her best friend for several years and she couldn't believe Janet would just cut her off so completely and suddenly.

It was wild, particularly because it was such a close knit fandom, and almost everyone was fandom friends with both Janet and Sheryl.

(Personally, my feeling was that Sheryl could be a bit impulsive, hot-headed, and emotionally messy, and probably hadn't handled herself all that well in the situation, but that Janet had always had a bit of a cold, conservative, "look at my perfect life" vibe about her that I didn't trust, and I absolutely believe she would cut a "close friend" off immediately if she felt said "close friend" was getting a mess all over the enviable image Janet had for her life.)
