I use pictures for inspiration for writing fic. Some of the imaging sites (stock, Pinterest that kinda thing, not personal sharing sites) I'm on are so hypocritical though. If I want scantily clad women or borderline softcore het porn then there's plenty. Any gay images are almost puritanical in nature. A kiss is the most you're getting.

It's really pissing me off.

Yeah this drove me crazy back when I was active on DeviantArt. You could have actual photos of a real woman’s boobs as “alternative modelling” or some bullshit directly on the front page but a well drawn and correctly flagged as adult, explicit malexmale artwork would be removed. Same with cosplay, I’ve been to a few conventions where attractive underdressed guys were asked to leave but Slave Leia was allowed in abundance.

That convention thing is so weird considering men in everyday situations almost always get a pass for being super underdressed, but women often get the stink for doing the same. I wonder if the reason it's different at cons is that there are more famous female cosplayers than male. And since they bring in money for the con(and frequently cosplay fairly scantily dressed characters), most female characters' cosplay automatically get pass whether they're being cosplayed by someone famous or not. I'm not sure though, but that's interesting. Sorry to shift topics!

I wonder if it's more to do with... it's NORMAL (according to modern patriarchal society etc.) for a lightly but appropriately dressed female to be seen in a sexual way, and therefore there's nothing odd about it, while a guy walking around in nothing but boxers is not sexualized, he's just a dude in boxers.

But the second a guy is wearing very little and clearly sexualized by way of what little they're wearing or how they're presenting themselves, it breaks people's brains. We can't have scantily-clad men seen the same way as scantily-clad women are always seen! It's intentionally sexual rather than coincidentally sexual, and therefore not family-friendly! *rolls eyes*

Also add into the mix male fragility. Can't for a second admit that the other guy is attractive or you might be *gasp* GAY. Thus, no attractive sexualized men for the rest of us cause alpha male super-straight dudebro noticed he's attractive too and complained to the hotel staff. (I have literally seen THIS happen at conventions.)

These are great points! I never really thought about it like that, but you're absolutely right. And wow, I honestly never should have underestimated male-fragility, that's crazy! That poor guy was just trying to have a good time at a con, and then comes insecure dudebros complaining about him and trying to get him kicked out!

Yep. They came to the after-hours rave to see attractive and possibly underage girls twerking in next to nothing, not attractive men. :/

And usually it is the hotel staff that get complained to, because most of the cons I attend seem to have staff who are fine with equal-opportunity fanservice. Hotel management, you can complain to them about someone showing their buttcheeks in their space and they're on it. Just, you know, people don't usually (though occasionally there are incidents) complain about girls showing buttcheeks or underboob.
