But people pay to access tv via satellite and cable and have ads.

And people pay for streaming that has ads. Doesn't mean that was the way it started or the way it should be.

Back in the day? Acceptable, because the ads compensated for the ridiculously low income the companies made by having to pay for the channels to be on the service.

Now? Stupid as fuck. The costs of cable aren't mitigated by shit anymore. Streaming is rapidly getting there - I keep trying to do the math to balance which serivces to keep vs whether to cut bait and go back to cable. So far the math ain't mathin, we're fucked no matter what. Waiting for one model to collapse and become good math sense again.

I've been sailing the seas for over two decades at this point. Highly recommend.

Yeah, if things keep going the way they are, that's the next step. But getting it to work easily on the TV, that's the part to wrestle with technologically. Watching on phones or laptops is not happenin.

i just torrent stuff and put the files (.avi, .mkv) on a USB stick that is then read by my smart TV.
If your TV has a USB port then it's highly probable you can do it too, easily. Just download stuff in 1080p though. Otherwise they suck on TV.
