I think talking to your doctor about it throughly is your best bet, they can maybe even offer dedicated time you'll need to recover. But knowing exactly how long you'll need to be off and what they can do to help you take that time off, especially when it comes to a high impact job like your own can really pave the way to knowing how to present it to your boss for the best results. Of course this is all based on where I live, so I'm not sure the experience is the same for you, but any and all information you can gain is the best place to start.
