That would literally defeat the whole purpose of Diet Coke.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't even like Diet Coke and I'm just kind of boggling at this secret.

If you want a diet version of Coke that tastes like Coke and doesn't have the nasty aftertaste, Coke Zero exists?

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Coke Zero has a stronger aftertaste to me than Diet Coke.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I WANT A VERSION OF SODA THAT TASTES LIKE DIET COKE BUT HAS REAL SUGAR IN IT INSTEAD OF ASPARTAME.

IS THIS DIFFICULT FOR PEOPLE TO COMPREHEND???????

I DON'T WANT REAL COKE. I DON'T WANT COKE ZERO BECAUSE THAT TASTES SIMILAR TO REAL COKE. I DON'T WANT MEXICAN COKE. I DON'T WANT A SODA THAT TASTES LIKE REAL COKE.

I WANT THE DIET COKE FLAVOR. WITH ACTUAL SUGAR.

THANK YOU.

It will never happen. First of all, Diet Coke was invented when regular Coke still had real sugar. And Diet Coke flopped with the general public but became a huge hit as the only soft drink diabetics could drink. It’s now also the main soft drink for people on all sorts of medications. It isn’t going to change. What you want doesn’t even make sense, it’s like you don’t know what Diet Coke is.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

If I may, Diet Coke actually has a different recipe from original Coke, and not just the sweetener.

The closest thing to what OP is describing (Diet Coke but with real sugar) might be New Coke/Coke II, which was based on Diet Coke's recipe but was discontinued decades back. But as I've never tried it, I can't verify whether or not it resembled the taste of Diet Coke.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, this is what this person wants. New Coke.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a diet coke fan, so by all means disregard... but to me, the signature taste of diet coke IS aspartame. I can't tolerate the stuff because it's got such a sticky-sweet, slightly chemical flavor that lingers nastily on the tongue.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
But... the diet Coke flavor IS the aspartame. That's why Coke Zero also has zero calories but tastes more like Coke - because it doesn't have aspartame.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not touching the obvious miscommunication here but agreeing with the other anon that Coke Zero has an equally if not stronger sweetener aftertaste.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't consume sugar if I can help it, and that's why I drink diet sodas?

Diet Rite has sucralose and not aspartame. It is probably the best-tasting diet cola, IMO.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the OP, but I disagree. The point is the two formulas have different tastes/flavors underneath it all. OP wants the taste of Diet Coke with sugar. Coke Zero would not do that.

Hot take: I would like it if they made a version of Diet Coke with real sugar.

Diet Coke does NOT taste the same as regular Coke. It has a different flavor and is clearly a different formulation. I don't eat or drink aspartame very often because it tends to leave an aftertaste in my mouth that persists for hours, but every so often, I just CRAVE that taste of Diet Coke. But if I drink it, I'll have to deal with that gross aftertaste for the rest of the day.

s!b I feel like literally no one will agree with this. People who like Diet Coke don't want it to have sugar and will think it would ruin the flavor to have real sugar. People who hate it will think this is a monstrous idea. And it might actually be terrible but dammit I want to try it.

Coke made with sugar is inherently not diet. It's not a monstrous idea just absolutely wrong? Also look for Mexican coke if you want to try coke with real sugar.

They don't want Mexican Coke. They want something that tastes like Diet Coke.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
1) Love the implication that diet coke has a fandom, because you're 100% correct, I've met many people I would describe as diet coke stans

2) how would you make a diet soda with real sugar

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
They don't want it to be a diet soda, they want a regular soda that tastes like Diet Coke. Regular Coke doesn't serve this purpose because it doesn't taste like Diet Coke

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I do think the formulation is probably a little different from regular Coke. But, um, the aspartame is part of the taste. If you put in sugar instead, it won't taste like Diet Coke. I don't think what you want is actually, like, possible (without adding in some artificial flavor that might, you guessed it, also have an aftertaste).

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who can't have aspartame I'd be curious.

... I don't drink Coke, haven't had one in a while, I'm a Pepsi man (at least, when I'm not a Dr. Pepper man), but I'd be curious!

Coke zero Is a zillion times better than diet Coke IMHO

I get it, you just want a soda that tastes like Diet Coke but without the aspartame after taste. You want the unique taste of diet coke.

I feel the same about energy drinks, I wish I could buy drinks that tasted like energy drinks but without the caffeine. Which I know is the whole point of energy drinks, but energy drinks have a unique taste to them that you can't get anywhere else and I love the way they taste, but caffeine makes me jittery and exacerbates my anxiety. So I wish you could get caffeine free energy drinks lol

Could you imagine the angry Truth Social post from a certain world leader if Coke made a sugar Diet Coke formula?

(Anonymous) 2026-05-22 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't think I'd ever get to drink Crystal Pepsi ever again but it had a few releases in the 2010s!

Secret OP's Diet Coke made with real sugar dream sounds like a tricky thing to try to create 🤔 but honestly, there are some really creative food content creators out there who might one day attempt this. I hope some of them lurk here XD

In the 1970s - 1990s there were stories about fans who wrote letters to companies and they created things based off those fan letters. Social media is more or less what we use now to communicate with companies to create things we want. You never know! People might pick up on this strange sounding curiosity XD

(Anonymous) 2026-05-23 06:22 am (UTC)(link)

They tried that, it was called New Coke and it gigaflopped despite performing better in blind taste tests.

Maybe one day they'll bring it back for nostalgia and/or novelty. Might even do well, as long as they avoid presenting it as a replacement this time around.
