Not OP, but my concern isn't who tops or bottoms or which is more IC for whom, but that the "bottom" isn't immediately written off as a whiny weakling in need of a "real man" to show him the way of True Love through taking it up the ass. Unfortunately, that's the way it goes in most slash, and Inception has not been immune.

I think it just means that fandom has gotten sick of Arthur being the primary subject of the weak bottom trope and wants to see some variety. We can hope for equal standing in their relationship/sex life, but this is slash fandom on the internet, no one is setting their expectations up very high for porn.

as the author of that comment i'd like to say that i actually do avoid tired old gender tropes in my work, and Eames being a bottom has little to do with his personality and more to do with the way i perceive his sexual preferences. he just seems like a guy who wants to come undone in the bedroom, whereas Arthur likes to be in control. however, like i said, they do switch. (and i realize that there are many facets to that dynamic - power bottoms, etc - and that the top is not always unequivocally in charge).

I'm not trying to say anything one way or another about how you write your stories. I'm saying I think it's straight-up disgusting that this secret listed bottoming in anal sex -- oh I'm sorry, "taking it up the arse" -- something that is the focus of 90% of homophobia (the only "bitches" in prisons are the ones who GET fucked, after all), as character assassination on par with cowardice and flaky indecision and weakness -- maybe even equated all these traits -- and everyone's reaction was just "yeah that sucks, give us better fic" instead of "ummm what the fuck."

I don't think that's what the secret was saying at all. In fact I'd argue that that is exactly what the OP is saying s/he doesn't want. There is nothing wrong with the character enjoying bottoming. But it's the way in which it is being written that is tiresome. Rather than both parties being portrayed as equal partners in the relationship, Arthur is being portrayed as - like you said - a "bitch" who needs a cock up his ass because of his flakiness/indecision.
It's the stereotypical uke/seme trope, which is offensive, because it forces one character into a stereotypically "male" role in a relationship and the other into a stereotypically "female" role in a relationship, thus ignoring their individual character traits just so the author can write HOT PRONZ!

Come on, now, anon. You saw the replies to the comment at the top here. People aren't upset because of the unequal power dynamics being ~offensive.~ They just want the unequal power dynamics to go in the other direction, even just for variety.

And that's... OKAY. It's not offensive to like a relationship where the couple isn't "equal partners," whatever that means. Especially in porn, where that's often the hottest part. But I will never be able to understand why people can't just own their preferences without shitting all over other those of others, and in this case, as a special bonus, throwing around some truly impressive homophobic sentiments while they're at it.

See, I don't see it like that. I'd say the reason people here are wanting more bottom!Eames is because 1) there aren't too many fics where Eames is a bottom in the first place, and 2) it would be difficult to write him in the uke stereotype. The author wouldn't be as easily dragged into writing one character as an ukey bottom because he's pretty/slim/whatever and the other character as a dominating seme because he's bigger/muscular/outspoken/whatever. It would hypothetically result in a better, less cliche fic.
