For merchandising--fuck no, the entire Princess Industrial Complex revolves around taking these characters, amputating whatever made them awesome, and reducing them to pink and sparkly and dainty and nothing else, even if that's the opposite of everything they wanted. Part of me has already died inside at the endless box-set dolls of Mulan in her matchmaker getup. The thought of the Endor Commando Leia action figure I played with as a kid being nonexistent or insanely hard to find, because nothing but shiny satin dress-up versions of her ANH robes are available, makes that part of me want to go on a homicidal rampage somewhere in Orlando.
(Not gonna lie, I had a Halloween costume of those ANH robes and loved playing dress-up in it, but that's just ONE PART of what I loved about Leia and I would never have adored her if it had been the only part. Plus, the part of dress-up I loved most was getting to be icy and defiant with the kid who was Vader for Halloween in fourth grade.)
