(Anonymous) 2012-11-26 12:58 am (UTC)(link)They certainly did have an effect on him, but I thought it was lessened because he was able to hang on to the grim truth that he was innocent?
(Yeah: "I think the only reason I never lost my mind is that I knew I was innocent. That wasn't a happy thought, so the dementors couldn't suck it out of me ... but it kept me sane and knowing who I am ... helped me keep my powers ... so when it all became ... too much ... I could transofmr in my cell ... become a dog." (p. 371 in my copy of Prisonor of Azkaban). (Sorry, I have too much time on my hands, apparently. xD))

(Anonymous) 2012-11-26 06:01 am (UTC)(link)So, yes, his innocence did make the difference in the end? Had he not been innocent, he would have had no *truth* - however unhappy - to sustain him.
(I mean, "I think the only reason I never lost my mind is that I knew I was innocent." is pretty explicit, no?)
(Sorry, pedantic argument much, but I haven't had the opportunity to talk to people about HP without it being stupid shippery stuff in forever, so I'm jumping on the chance. xD)
