The Chromedome/Rewind thing? Man. People are going fucking nuts over that. One of my best bros tried to 'ARE YOU GAY' at me because I said that it made perfect sense and I'd been rooting for that revelation since day one. They're a cute couple. They understand each other better than anyone else. They work it out together. I'm quite certain they'd die for one another, and I think that's enough evidence that they are significant others.

Exactly that.

The wank is mind-boggling to me. For the IDW Cybertronians gender is an artificially created thing (...although that storyline is another wank magnet, it is how canon exists). So they aren't straight and they aren't gay. They just ARE. Whatever a Cybertronian "couple" entails, they are that. Roberts said as much.

OK, wait...are people seriously arguing against them for the 'gay' aspect?

I can see arguing against their relationship on the basis that romantic relationships among Cybertronians don't make sense, due to their being a physically asexual species - I disagree that this necessarily leads to them being aromantic, based on every single previous canon except the Marvel comics, and their very human personalities even there, but I can see the argument - but...

To argue against it because they're both, theoretically, masculine-gendered...that's just...odd. Even ignoring that pre-Arcee there was only one gender in this continuity, so 'gay/straight' is kind of a meaningless concept... Well, if it was a meaningful description, why couldn't they be gay?

There are people both arguing against it because of the "gay thing", and fans of the "OMG GAY IS BETTER IN EVERYTHING" ilk squeeing for it.

Both sides are missing the point quite thoroughly. And while they are different sides of the spectrum neither seems to be able to divorce the idea of "the person that you'd die for above all else" from the idea of "sexual reproduction".
