me too op

[Picture is actors Will Smith and Kevin Kline playing James West and Artemus Gordon in the movie "Wild Wild West". James West is a man with dark skin and short black hair, a slight beard and mustache, wearing stylish eye-glasses, a black cowboy hat, a long-sleeved white shirt and a purple vest. He has a gun in his hand. Artemus Gordon is a man with short curly brown hair and pale skin, wearing similar eye-glasses, and a black suit. Their clothes look like some sort of elegant Western style. Behind them is a giant mechanical spider.]

I liked Wild Wild West. And not even in a 'so bad it's good' way. I genuinely enjoy it.

I own this movie. It came free with our DVD player. Alas, I like it in a so bad it's good way. It is a fun romp, so I can see why your feelings about it are genuine :)

I love it too and don't get the hate. It's a different animal than the TV series, and taken on its own merits without Expectation Baggage (which I feel fortunate for not having going it), it's pretty spiffy.

I guess somebody had to?

I'm just glad the guy didn't end up doing that horrible superman.

I'm not sure if I like it in a "so bad it's good" kind of way or because I was very young when I saw it for the first time and Will Smith shaped nostalgia goggles are doing their thing, but all I know is that I also enjoy this movie and whenever it's on TV I have to watch it.

(I think the villain is hilarious)

I caught it on TV one day and I gotta say it was entertaining.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-20 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I genuinely like it too, OP, but I haven't watched it in years. Truth be told, I can't remember any reason for it to be universally hated.

Anyone? Why is this considered a "bad" movie?

I loved the original series. Not this movie. The OTT Victorian!WildWest!Punk annoyed me.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-20 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I could probably quote this movie from beginning to end. I love it completely unironically. You're not alone, OP. ♥

Don't feel bad, the world is full of people with terrible taste.

People like you are the reason Nascar and Twilight and Quentine Tarantino are so popular. The world is made of and for people to constantly lower the bar, so YANA.

Don't feel bad - there are a lot of people too stupid to google names before writing. The internet is made for people who can't write properly.

i remember a few years back when i heard about salma hayek's breast cancer scare, i remember thinking "oh god what a terrible tragedy... this didn't happen before she filmed wild wild west." that's right. breast cancer is not a bad a thing as this terrible movie.

Me, too. It's just a fun movie!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-20 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You are not alone OP, I 100% unironically love this movie and to this day my flatmate and I will start quoting lines from it in appropriate (and inappropriate) situations. It helped that we were playing a lot of Deadlands when we first watched it, and it's SUCH a Deadlands movie.

And anyone who sneers at you can go watch Citizen Kane with their fine wine and Cuban cigars and stroke their beards in contemplation. Fuck 'em.

I really don't see what other people do with this movie. I genuinely like it. It has Kevin Klein! I mean, it has some hilarious flaws, but I don't think it's one of the worst movies ever, or anything.

I hear people complain about the giant mechaspider. Why would you complain about that!? It was freaking awesome. I wish I had a giant mechaspider. If I ever get to Paris again, I'm stealing theirs.

Haha, I like it unironically, too, it was incredibly fun. But then, I'm the girl who considers Bridesmaids an exercise in unrelenting misery, so I don't pretend my preferences are shared by many.

I should probably rewatch this one. It came out when I was a kid and I liked it and carried fond memories of it. It wasn't until years later that I found out how much everyone hated it. Maybe as an adult, it won't be near the fun movie that I remember.

Ditto. No shame.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-21 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
there are just certain types of movies that are fun for the sake of fun, and Wild Wild West is one of them

haters gonna hate

(Anonymous) 2013-07-21 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like this movie at all. Not because I had some undying love for the original: I've never seen it.*

It just hit a *lot* of tropes I really don't like, and just...didn't do anything well enough to overcome that.

Though I do kind of side eye their choice to change what was by all accounts a very well written dwarf villain [well written in both the sense that it treated his dwarfism very well, and was a good villian in general] with...whatever the hell that half spider robot man was.

I am willing to forgive all of its flaws because it had a giant mechaspider.

Me too! It's crazy, but the good kind of crazy. I didn't go expecting historical accuracy, I just wanted a fun movie :D

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
Me, too! I remember going to see it in theaters with my family and we all liked it. I don't know what people hated about it so much. It was good and it was fun.
